Working in construction or simply utilizing construction equipment at home is not for the faint of heart. When utilizing instruments such as a drilling machine or a cutting grinder machine, experts frequently emphasize the significance of wearing safety gear such as durable construction bodysuits, specialized goggles that protect the eye, and gloves.
People, however, frequently use these devices without any protection for the sake of convenience, laziness, or their faith in chance. Sometimes such a lack of caution might result in serious injury, but every now and again, a few unlucky people get a close shave by chance.
Who was the Australian construction worker who nearly escaped death?
Now, a video showing how an Australian guy avoided a major groin injury is gaining popularity online.
Alastair Candlin was working on a building job at his home in Queensland, Australia, earlier this month. He was cutting a slab of metal using an antique angle grinder. However, as he was slicing the metal, the angle grinder’s blade broke and flew away.
What happened in the video?
Candlin had no idea where the shattered blade had gone until he looked down and discovered it was lodged in the thick fabric of his jeans around his groin. If the blade had been sharper or the force more powerful, it would have cut through the fabric and produced a deep incision.
Candlin was not wearing any protective eyewear or helmet, thus the blade may have flown to another exposed region of his body.
Candlin later released a short video of the broken angle grinder blade sticking in his pants after calming down. He uploaded this video to TikTok under the alias wolfofbrisbane. This video received over four million views and quickly spread to other social media channels.
How did people react on the video?
The prominent Instagram account Tradie Jobs Australia published this clip online on November 15 with the description “Close call.” “I hate grinders,” commented one Instagram user in response. “This is what safety equipment is for,” said another.
Candlin described the incident to Daily Mail Australia, saying, “When it (the blade on the angle grinder) broke, it happened so quickly, I was looking for where it went.” When I looked down, I saw it in the last place I’d want it. The grinder’s disk was getting old and nearing the end of its useful life.”
