Xiumin, Chen and Baekhyun of the South Korean pop group EXO have demanded the termination of their exclusive contracts.
The three members of the popular K-pop group EXO have submitted a notice to their agency, SM Entertainment, wanting to end their exclusive contracts with each other. According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the Lin law firm that represents the three members of the group, Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen, respectively, sent notices to the agency for the termination of their exclusive contracts.
The three EXO members have submitted multiple requests for their documents that have detailed lists of their earnings and pay spanning from March through May. The members requested to clean up and make the company’s earnings records transparent, however, the agency refused to do so.

The group members ran into contract issues where the members’ lawyers stated that the agency forced the singers to sign a lengthy contract that spanned 12 or 13 years. They also demanded that the contract be prematurely extended to at least 17-18 years, what the artists called the contract ‘slave contracts’.

The members also shared an apologetic message to their fans where they wrote, “We apologize for causing great concern to fans through this issue and there is no way to fully express our apology. Although legal action is inevitable due to a difference in our position.” With SM, we will do our best to find a wise way to resolve this dispute so as not to cause fans too much concern.”

They further wrote: “As we try to speak with our little voices about the injustice we couldn’t speak about until now, we are very scared and fearful of this moment right now. We hope you take an interest in who we are.” saying as well as our difficult courage. Once again, we sincerely thank our fans who have supported us for a long time.”
The agency also gave a public response in which they blamed external forces for getting close to their artists, their statement saying, “Meanwhile, SM Entertainment blamed ‘external forces’ for getting close to their artists. They said in a statement, ” We have confirmed that external forces are approaching our artists (…) external forces do not think about the artist at all, they are committing illegal acts that entice our artists to make wrong decisions and violate exclusive contracts (…) No We will sit in on the movements of those who pursue the greed of money, and we will take all possible legal measures.”
The three members of the group Xiumin, Chen, and Baekhyun have been a part of the group since 2012. The team consists of a total of 9 boys, including Suho, Lay, Chanyeol, DO, Kai, and Sehun.
