Travelling comes with its own set of headaches. Yes, the scenery and freedom are all a person needs to find some respite from their hectic lives, but the planning and scheduling for the trip can take it out of even the best of us. Making our jobs a tad bit easier, a former FBI agent is giving away her secret method to find the safest room in any hotel for your future travels.
The Former FBI Agent Always Avoids Private Rentals
At the age of 44, Tracy Walder has held positions as an FBI special agent and a CIA officer. Her experiences in both roles have taught her the importance of taking additional precautions when working on assignments, particularly when overseas.
Prior to embarking on any journey, Walder likes to conduct thorough research on her destination to assess any potential terrorist threats. She also never forgets to download an app that can notify her contacts of her whereabouts in case of an emergency.
The criminal justice professor from Dallas makes sure to attach an Apple Air Tag to her luggage. She also has her 8-year-old daughter wear a bracelet with a tracking device on it. When organising her travels, she avoids booking private rentals, as she believes they are “extremely dangerous and risky.”
She told SWNS, “You are really putting your trust in someone that you don’t know to stay in their home.”
Which Hotel Room Should You Pick?
After choosing a hotel, Walder asks for a room located on the third to sixth floors. She mentioned that these rooms are close enough to the main floor for emergency purposes but far enough away from potential intruders who might enter from the ground floor.
Walder adds, “When it comes to floor level, there are two things—the first is entering. Typically, someone who’s trying to do harm is going to go the easiest way that they can, and that would be entering through the first floor as it is most accessible.”
For getting out, Walder says, “If you’re too high on the 20th or 21st floor, it’s going to be really difficult for you to get out quickly.”
