New Delhi, Swami Chidananda Giri (President of the Yogda Satsang Society of India, Self-Realization Fellowship); All human beings are actually souls. It is not right for you to jump to a conclusion just on the basis of your birth. Those we call ‘young’ are old souls and have gone through all kinds of efforts and aspirations to fulfill the desires -happiness, security, love, etc.- that are innate in every human being. You have spent many lifetimes trying to achieve that (fulfillment) and you have finally come here and millions of people who have been born are at that stage of evolution from their previous lives. Sri Krishna sheds light on this subject in the Srimad Bhagavad Gita.
He tells Arjuna, ‘Don’t worry if this life of yours comes to an end without achieving the ultimate goal, for no effort in yogic meditation is in vain.’ After that, the devotee is reborn in such an environment, where he begins his further journey anew. That is why those whom you call ‘young’ are well informed. They are probably warrior souls who have been through all kinds of experiences and whose consciousness is such that they have done all kinds of things in different circumstances. He comes back again and says, ‘Now I won’t waste my time anymore. I will not waste my more births in vain. I will do that work, which will really fulfill my soul’s potential and the longing for that divine connection that exists in my soul.’
Just as the development of all life follows an ascending pattern, in the same way the development of human beings also starts from the initial human talents to the higher stages of development.
Your potential continues to unfold continually and more and more in one birth after another. The entire human race goes through cycles of development and counter-development, referred to in the scriptures as Yugas. They keep going up and down.
We are currently in an age that is in a state of ascension. In other words, the souls born in the current era are at a higher stage of development than their grandparents and great-grandparents… Look at the children of today, they naturally have this feeling… ‘No, just someone. hate them because of the color of their skin’, and in the hearts of these children there is a natural rejection of another form of human ignorance in which older generations in all countries of the world firmly believed. It’s almost like they come with a bit of preparation beforehand. As soon as this meditation principle (given by Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda) is presented to you, this path based on universal spiritual principles (which has nothing to do with ‘my religion and your religion’, which is a universal path, unites more well that it divides the human family), seems perfectly logical to them, because that is exactly where they are in their ascent up the ladder of evolution.
In my opinion, when you’re the same age as me now, you’ll probably see a lot more growth. Then you’ll look back and say, ‘Oh, how can people from those older generations be like this?’
