Sawan 2023: Story

According to Hindu scriptures, at the time of Samudra Manthan or churning of the ocean, many auspicious things, including innumerable amounts of gems, jewels, the Kaamdhenu cow, and an elephant named Airawat, came out of the ocean along with the poison, but demons and deities. they were shocked to see that poison (Halahal) as it had the ability to destroy the world and everything.

Lord Shiva then came to rescue and drank all the poison and stored it in his throat which turned out to be blue in color that is why Lord Shiva is also called Neelkanth. Lord Shiva saved the entire world from this destructive poison. The demons and deities began to offer him the holy water of Ganga to reduce the dangerous effect of the poison. This event took place during this month, since then this month is celebrated as the month of Shravan and is considered to be the auspicious month of the year.
