Shani Jayanti has immense importance in Hinduism as Lord Shani was born on this day to Lord Surya and Mothre Swarna also known as Chhaya and according to Hindu scriptures Lord Shani was an ardent follower of Lord Shiva. Not only that, but Lord Shani is believed to be the ruler of karma, which includes things like trade and service. It is considered unlucky to look directly into Lord Shani’s eyes; therefore, followers should avoid doing so.

  1. In the temple, people do Shani Shanti Puja with the help of a competent priest.
  2. Light a mustard oil diya under a peepal tree in the Shani temple.
  3. The Shani Mantra is chanted 108 times: “Om Sham Shanishcharay Namah”.
  4. Most of the devotees travel to Shani Shingnapur, which is located in Nasik.

  1. Take a holy bath in the Ganges.
  2. To appease Lord Shani Dev, light a mustard oil diya near the peepal tree.
  3. People can perform Chaya Daan (gazing at your own shadow in a bowl of mustard oil) and then offer it to the poor or needy.
  4. You can observe a fast and seek blessings from Lord Shani.
  5. Donations and charitable work are considered satisfactory.
  6. To counter Lord Shani’s malevolent effects, recite the Hanuman Chalisa seven or eleven times.
  7. On this day, donate black sesame seeds and black urad.
  8. On this auspicious day, keep your celibacy and break your fast with sativk meals.

Shani Jayanti 2023 Don’ts

  1. Do not mistreat your subordinates, workers or housewives.
  2. Do not offend or harm someone you know.
  3. Never stay without doing anything; always fight for your future and practice karma.
  4. If you want to seek the blessings of Lord Shanidev, avoid eating meat and consuming alcohol.
  5. Never use abusive language.
