In the crash, two cars were involved on the SH5 at Iwitahi, east of Taupo, before 6pm on Sunday night. Additionally, the two cars collided between High-Level Road and Motukino Road, where one of the two cars also caught fire, leading authorities to record two casualties that occurred in the crash. The third person involved in the victim was found with serious injuries. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition. A St. John Media spokeswoman said a rapid response unit and an ambulance were on the scene. The victim was treated and evaluated at the scene until the air ambulance arrived.
